Healing Your Areola Tattoo
I take healing seriously as there is a lot put into the whole tattoo process from creating a design to healing and maintenance. This page breaks down the main components to allow transparency and ensure quality that will last a lifetime if cared for properly.
Healing Instructions
Once your tattoo session reaches completion, you will receive a medical-grade adhesive, known as “second skin,” to cover your tattoo. This adhesive bandage is designed to last several days and allows your body to gently heal the tattoo without forming heavy scabs.
Common brands I've used include: Dermalize, Saniderm, SecondSkin and Tegaderm.

During the first 24 hours you may notice a bit of build up form underneath the second skin, but don't worry. This is blood, plasma, and some extra ink that naturally surfaces as your body starts the healing process. Your skin may also be a bit red and sore and may feel slightly warm to the touch. This should start to calm down after a day or two. During this time, it's important to take care of yourself and avoid overexertion. Your body needs time to rest and regenerate to support a smooth healing process.

I like to recommend leaving the second skin on anywhere from 2-3 days (or up to 4-5 days maximum if the second skin is not causing irritation). When you are ready to remove the second skin, start by washing your hands thoroughly before gently peeling back the wrap.
Use warm water and fragrance-free soap to cleanse the area. Rinse well before lightly patting the skin dry. Wait a few minutes to allow your tattoo to dry a little before applying your aftercare. A little goes a long way and it is always best to make sure that your aftercare is put on in thin amounts, making sure you do not clog your pores so the skin can breathe.

Your tattoo should take anywhere from 7-10 days to heal externally. Some skin types can take up to two weeks. It is important to make sure the healing skin does not soak in water for too long so swimming must be put on hold for a minimum of two weeks.

Other Helpful Advice:
*Drink plenty of water to help speed up your healing process. Water helps transport nutrients in the blood that are needed for skin repair and regeneration. Plus, hydrated skin is healthier and can better showcase your new tattoo's colours and details.

*Vitamin C is a vital nutrient that plays a crucial role in tissue regeneration and immune system support. Its potent antioxidant properties make it an essential component of collagen formation, which is critical for the healing. Increasing your Vitamin C intake can help overall health and wellness.

*Protecting your medical tattoo from the sun is crucial for proper healing. Sunburn can cause damage to the tattoo and prolong the healing process. It's best to avoid direct sun exposure and use protective clothing or sunscreen (when the tattoo is fully healed).

*Wear loose-fitting clothing to prevent any potential irritation. Tight clothing can cause friction or chafing, which may lead to the formation of scar tissue or toughening of the skin. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize skin care by opting for comfortable clothing during this period.

*Try not to exercise or sweat too much. This might be easier said than done, but you should try to sweat as little as possible. This is because excessive sweat can irritate or even damage your tattoo. Therefore, you should try to take it easy for at least a few days.

Cartridge Needles
I have been using a variety of rotary machines over the years and since I found the right machine to suit my style, I started using Kwadron cartridge needles to compliment the quality I aim to provide for each client.
Using the latest technological advances and advanced processes, Kwadron have created cartridges that provide unparalleled precision and convenience while providing a comfort for both artist and client. Kwadron cartridges meet all, the most stringent safety and hygiene requirements. All cartridges are sterile and disposable, eliminating the risk of infection and guaranteeing absolute hygiene at work.
Second Skin
For my clients that are not sensitive to adhesives, I prefer to use a thin self-adhesive film (ex. Second Skin/Dermalise Pro) which provides a moist healing environment during the initial, and most critical, healing stage of a tattoo wound.
It protects the new tattoo from friction and provides a WATERPROOF, ANTIBACTERIAL-BARRIER that prevents pathogens and external contaminants from entering the wound.
The film is BREATHABLE, letting oxygen in and allowing excess moisture vapour to be released from the wound.
*If this style of healing is not suitable, I will offer a simple wrap option with separate healing instructions to suit.
